Vi Cosplay

It didn't take me long to fall in love with Arcane's Vi and to then commit to a joint cosplay with my friend who came along to Comic Con as the Jinx.
Vi's character is very unique, the story so movingand her journey both tragic and powerful. I admired Vi immensely for her strength and determination and I wanted to do that justice when I cosplayed her.

This time I decided to make everything from scratch, even making Vi's trousers from scratch, a feat I hadn't yet dared. However, my work with Vi was sadly rushed and I was never able to complete her jacket nor the gauntlets, so I decided to cosplay Vi as her earlier version, which allowed me to show off my arm tats!
The under-top I redesigned from a thrift find hooded vest top. The vest top and the trousers were both made from scratch, I painted the stripe design on with fabric paint and lots of strips of frog tape. The "blue accessory" with the belts was a quilted work. The additional accessories were made mostly out of EVA foam and faux leather, the boots I bought, dying them from black to blue and covering it in brown faux leather. The pouch I salvaged from an old steampunk outfit I no longer use and the trousers underneath were cheap faux leather jeans that I bought (they heated up very quickly!). Now the wig was my first at styling. I bought a wig that was already coloured and for the "shaved" side I cut the hair down so close the cap that there were lots of holes and gaps. This was deliberate as I saved the hair I cut off and hot glued them back to the inside cap of the wig so that it gave that realistic look of close-shaved hair, bulk and texture. The other half was styled by back-combing the hair, sectioning out the spikes and then shaping them with hairspray (for wigs) and securing them in place with a hairdryer.

Vi was so much fun to bring to life, strutting around with her badass attitude. For the tattoos I purchased some "print out" tattoo paper and created the images, printed them onto the paper and stuck them on... or rather my Jinx stuck them on for me! I used boxing bandages instead of medical bandages as they were closer to what Vi would have had and are both stronger and more durable.

Cosplay shoots

The one thing I love about Comic Con is the community. When you find people who share the same love for a fandom it creates an explosion of fun and creativity. I attended an Arcane group photo and video shoot and this is one of the videos I ended up in (at the end).
