Amity Blight Cosplay
The Owl House is an incredibly revolutionary TV series which captured my heart almost instantly. Maybe I have a thing for antagonists with a redemption arc, but Amity Blight, to me, was in so many ways an exceptionally relatable and lovable character. She is also a ridiculously popular character to cosplay so straight away I was going out of my comfort zone.
Amity's outfit has been by far the easiest cosplay to make. Her dress I purchased and redesigned, her shoes I made a couple of moons out of EVA foam and I decided to go for leggings as opposed to tights for the depth of colour and fabric. I bought a white wig and died it purple (using purple ink and alcohol rub in a spray bottle) whilst pulling my own hair through the wig for Amity's natural strips. Her necklace I also made from scratch using clay foam and molding the shape. Amity's ears were the most fun! Most people use fake "slip-on" ears, but I instead made my ears. Using tissue to form the shape, I crafted the pointy ears and used liquid latex to both blend the shape naturally into my ear and to also form the skin-like texture. I used a mixture of white paint and foundation to create the skin colour. Taking the ears off was a bit of a struggle however, as I had accidentally tangled my hair in with the latex!
Amity has a little palisman, a cat called Ghost, who transforms from a lovable furball to a powerful magical staff. This staff I created to complete the Amity look. Ghost was in fact 3D printed and I placed her on top of a PVC pipe which I made detachable with magnets. I painted Ghost to make her look textured with fur and the rest was simply spray painted. All in all I really loved the result of the staff!
The one thing you can guarantee with an Owl House cosplay is finding your way into a wonderful, friendly and special community of people.
