Hosting and Presenting Online Quiz Nights
When lockdown hit a couple of friends - who are very into quizzes - and I joined forces to organise and host an online charity quiz night at the beginning of lockdown. We created 10 categories, with a kiddy section, allocating the categories to each of the quiz master's specialties. In the run up to the quiz night we did a lot of fundraising and promoting to get as many people as we could interested and in the end we had a huge turnout as we livestreamed our quiz on my Facebook page. We had a prize for the winning team, which paid off as we raised money for NHS Charities Together (with the aid of my Mhairi McFluff book profits).
Because this was such a huge success, when it came to Halloween we teamed back up to organise and host a second quiz night to fill everyone's otherwise guising-less Halloween with a bit of excitement. We were again met with enthusiasm as we dressed up and themed the night around spooky Halloween tales and questions. We raised money this time for CHAS (Children's Hospices Across Scotland).
At the end of February we ran a Harry Potter quiz to support mental health during lockdown. This one was probably our biggest success with the most amount of entries and audience participation throughout. This quiz was basically done all by myself but still hosted alongside my fellow quiz masters. We sent over a grand prize to the winning team and we also gave a prize to the team with the best team name. This time the place was decorated massively in Harry Potter themes and we had learnt from our previous technical issues and the night flowed smoothly (bar the first attempt to start up the quiz and nothing worked!). We didn't raise money but what we did provide was support for people's mental health and a really fun evening.
