Work in Theatre
Acting for me started on the stage. From the age of 8 I have been acting in many productions that range from small 'family and friends' performances with youth theatre groups to being a part of shows that took place at The Lyceum Theatre and Usherhall in Edinburgh and at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
A Handbag
For the Lyceum's festival opening I was cast as Irene (Gwendolen) in our performance of A Handbag. It was performed once as the opening act to the Lyceum's festival week.
Edinburgh Military Tattoo
I was selected as one of the few in Lyceum Youth Theatre (LYT) to join ESMS Stewart Melville and Mary Erskine in the Edinburgh Military Tattoo as scenery sprites/morphs. We spent gruelling hours over the summer receiving military training and rehearsing our choreography for the shows. We started off on the nights of the performances as the embodiment of lava flowing out of the Edinburgh castle and then spent the rest of the evening performing as scenery sprites for many of the other performers, working with them and around their routine as we danced on and off the esplanade as part of their scenery whilst dressed head to toe in black morphsuits.
Peter Pan
For the Edinburgh Youth Theatre group in Portobello I choreographed the fight scene in their play for their performance at the Edinburgh Fringe. I gave them basic fencing training so they could understand balance and sword handling and then worked with them in pairs to personally choreograph sequences of fighting to perform an overall fight scene that would be held aboard the pirate's ship. They received many 5 star reviews with several of them making reference to the success of the fight scene.
MGA Academy of Performing Arts
MGA Academy had a programme for high school students where we learnt the basics of ballet, tap and jazz and received singing coaching and training all from professionals. At Christmas time we performed several acts in MGA's annual A Christmas Wish show on the Usherhall stage along with the full time students and the 'Acadaminis'. By the end of the year at MGA's part time programme we all starred in MGA's first part-timer's show, Once Upon A Fairy Tale where we performed musical numbers from different fairy tale franchises. This was held over a weekend with three evening and one matine performances.
The Mysterious Case of a Winter Night's Murder
For Pencaitland Primary School's P7 class end of school show in 2018, my Dad - their teacher - allowed me to write an original piece for them to perform. I came into school to talk to the pupils and get ideas from them about what they would like to include in their show and pulling all ideas together I created a one and a half hour long murder mystery farce that was performed to the pupils, teachers and the parents (200 odd altogether). Timon of Athens
In my penultimate year at university I chose to take the 'Page to Stage' module where we were assigned to a group to recreate an original interpretative performance of Shakespeare's Timon of Athens. We were assigned specific scenes from the play that we were to piece together into a running performance with only four characters. I was cast as Flavius, and our group created a contemporary representation of the classic play by turning the world and characters 'gender-neutral'. Whilst the concept was exceedingly difficult to comprehend as an actor, and moreso to execute, we all worked hard and came out with high marks.
High School
In high school I studied Drama to Higher level. Within that time I was a part of many performances some being graded productions and others the school Christmas shows. In my first year I was selected as one of only three first years to be a part of the Christmas show - Arabian Nights and I was a part of the Christmas show in my fifth year when we performed our 'glow in the dark/neon' take of Alice in Wonderland. Some of my graded performances included roles of:
Lady Bracknell - The Importance of Being Ernest
Miss Mackay - The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie
Ismene - Antigone
Barbs - Perfect Days
