Locked in a Doll's House

This book was inspired by my university photography project - Locked in a Doll's House  - which embodied the feelings of what it means to be in lockdown. The idea that the virus acted as a puppet master to our fate as we sat locked in our doll houses inspired me to intertwine this ideal with my own experiences of lockdown and create a story that people could not only relate to but follow, enjoy, laugh and cry. This story is not a recapitulation of Covid19: the science, politics and timeline of events. The story is meant to simply replicate the life of a group of friends who are struggling to varying degrees through this pandemic - whether it's mental or physical health, financial or economical issues or simply struggling from being seperated from family and friends.

The Plot

Five students, one flat and one never-ending lockdown. When a group of university students are hit head first by the Covid19 pandemic they face a world where everything they knew and worked for is turned inside out. Facing the every day lives of someone in lockdown of 2020 Lyra, an aspiring writer, documents her days in lockdown and the challenges and adventures she faces, but nothing prepared her for when Covid came knocking on her door.

From panic buying to panic cleaning Lyra documents the events that followed on from day 50 of lockdown covering the ups and many downs.

Despite many an attempt to twist the rules of the regulations, their journey to the beach one sunny July day brought an end to their nonchalant attitude towards the deadly killing virus when a trip to the hospital changed their lives even more; as if like little marionettes being pupeteered by the strings of the virus, locked in their individual doll house.
