Locked In A Doll's House

What does it feel like to be in lockdown?

In my last year of university I chose to take the photography module and for our final portfolio we had free reign over the style and topic of our photos. My original work was all about bringing to life cosplayers' characters, however, when the pandemic hit in 2020 I was unable to fulfill my original plan. After much consideration I decided to conduct a still life photography project answering the question:

What does it feel like to be in lockdown?

My answer was: Locked in a Doll's House. I undertook a small study to discover what lockdown meant to people. They provided me with singular words and/or phrases to describe their feelings, and I, as the photographer, put myself inside these feelings to replicate them in my photos. My interpretation of the feelings people gave me surrounded a sense of being trapped inside our homes whilst the fate of the virus has us hanging on it’s every move, and we obey every direction the Government provides, as if the virus, itself, is playing us like marionettes in our own individual doll houses. I wanted to incorporate this ideology into my still life art photography project by photographing the feelings of lockdown through dolls and objects.

I then ended up furthering this feeling into my ongoing story - Locked In A Doll's House.
