Work in Film
Even though I studied Theatre and Film for four years at university it was always a struggle to freeload off the film modules for experience and advanced resume work, and because of this I spent a lot of my free time writing and directing short films that I would further enter into competitions.
My first piece of work was actually in fifth year of high school when I took Higher media and our class were tasked with creating a mock trailer for our final grades. I not only starred as one of the main cast but I co-directed and co-edited the final work which was a huge success and our media teacher submitted it as one of four media projects to represent our school in an EIFF competition for high schools in Edinburgh.
Continuing my work with the EIFF, in 2017 I pulled together a small team to enter the 'science film' competition where we were tasked to create a short film about our allocated science research project. Ours was 'pandemics and infectious diseases'. It was a huge challenge as we had to produce the intirety of the film within one week and for myself I was with a group of friends who knew little about film making and with very minimal equipment. As a result I ended up writing, directing, editing and starring as the protagonist in our short film. Despite the hardships of the week our film ended up being screened in Cineworld Fountain Park Edinburgh which was worth every step.
My biggest undertaking so far has been when I decided to dedicate a summer to filming a half hour film to be submitted to the EIFF as one of their screening films. I wrote a screenplay about a deaf girl who is ostracized to the point of near suicide when she is saved by the embodiment of the voice of the ocean. This process required a lot of work from all cast and crew, ranging from sign language workshops to 'mermaid training'. I was lucky to have such a talented team and the film, even though it didn't make it to the festival screening, was nominated for the EIFF.
My most recent work was during lockdown. My friend and I created a short comedy film, based in a lockdown scenario, where the protagonist discovers she can turn back time to fix her embarrasing voice message she accidently sends to her crush.
